
The last of the Henriques died in 1968 and the company passed on to his closest collaborators and friends. The company has continued to pass on the baton of both tradition and technology to subsequent generations until the present day.
As well as being a producer and exporter, H&H is also the only company to own its own vineyards, resulting in the production of extremely high quality grapes, particularly of the Verdelho and Terrantez varieties, which allows it to control production from cultivation to harvest. On the other hand, it also buys grapes from various winegrowers with whom it has a close and long-standing relationship.
In 1992, Henriques & Henriques began an expansion program and invested in the construction of a new ageing cellar in the parish of Câmara de Lobos, where the head office and commercial space are also located. He also built a winemaking center on his property in the parish of Quinta Grande, which has given the company the means to meet the demands of the markets, using the latest technological innovations while maintaining the family tradition of almost 200 years in the production of Madeira’s best wines.

The history of Henriques & Henriques dates back to 1850 when the company was founded by João Gonçalves Henriques, a descendant of a family that had settled in Câmara de Lobos many years before. After his death in 1912, his sons João Joaquim and Francisco Eduardo Henriques entered into a partnership, which gave rise to the name “Henriques & Henriques”.
Over the generations, the Henriques family has played an important role in the production of Madeira wine, where it has always stood out as a producer of excellent quality wines. In the meantime, several events in the second half of the 20th century have taken place. XIX, namely the appearance of powdery mildew in 1852 and shortly afterwards phylloxera in 1872, vine diseases that resulted in serious damage to the region’s vineyards and, as a consequence, led to the family’s assets being consolidated in 1913 into a company that later, in 1925, began exporting its products.
