The company (now defunct) that created this brand was founded in 1928 with the aim of exporting fortified wine from Madeira to Sweden, which it did for 16 years.
In 1944, the company began to diversify its markets. This expansion soon encompassed the rest of the Scandinavian countries and other international markets. For many years, Carmo Vinhos, LDA. produced and bottled Madeira wines for the well-known house Harveys of Bristol, for the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Denmark.
The brand is available in the USA where it is marketed by the company Kysela Père et Fils.
